A 6 month Workshop and Cohort

for the comprehensive development of your own Independent Animated Feature or Graphic Novel, guided by Minkyu Lee

  1. How will it differ from other Workshops or Classes?

While conventional, trade-oriented classes have important purposes to serve,

it has also been my experience that the guidance given therein

can be limiting in scope and application, formulaic/generalized, or limited to

autobiographical advice, instead of highly customized to the unique,

individual, and even idiosyncratic nature of each particular Artist/Creative.

In this workshop,

I will be utilizing methods that (I am pretty sure) have not been utilized by other such workshops,

drawing from my vocation as a Human Design Reader and Astrologer.

All participants will have 3 personal check-ins during the duration of this workshop,

and participants will have the option to choose the utilization of these

modalities (Human Design and Astrology) for a deeper, more comprehensive

analysis and guidance for the realization of their project.

You have your own unique way of creating that is different from anyone else,

and that is what I believe to be the most powerful roadmap to your creative path.

The film and entertainment industry is going through massive change,

and much of it will continue to break down.

In these moments, we have a window of opportunity to reimagine and explore what

new and better ways of creating together could look like.

a workshop for Artists, Writers, and Filmmakers who know that there is no better time

for turning their passion project into a reality than Now.

But creating alone can feel isolating.

Because of my first hand experience, I deeply believe in the power of artists creating independently, but together.

When the environment is right, there is a contagious fuel that arises in those spaces,

A sort of magic that moves your project forward organically, effortlessly, exhuberently.
That is what I aspire to create this workshop with.

This Workshop offers 2 tracks;

a) The Animated Feature track

b) The Graphic Novel track

Participants will select one of the two, and in a safe and supportive community environment,

and I, Minkyu, your workshop guide, will take you through the stages of:

  1. Idea Development, wether you have an existing idea that is ready for more fleshing out, or are starting from scratch

  2. Writing, from outlining to the completion of a full draft of script

  3. Visual Development

  4. Finding bespoke and future-oriented Ways of Sharing Your Project and Next Steps

*Participants for both tracks will be attending the same sessions together.

When?

The first Workshop Session will be on August 15th, Friday, at 10am

All subsequent Sessions will 3 times Every Month (On Sundays as designated by the curriculum),

for a total of 16 Live Sessions.

The Month of December will hold only 1 session for the Holiday Season,

and the final session will be held on January 18th.

Graphic Novel Workshop is

  1. Who is this Workshop For?

This workshop is not a beginner's course, or a 101 on Visual Storytelling.

Instead this is a workshop that will be discussing the craft and philosophy of these mediums with aspirations for achieving it's highest realizations.

I want to you to make the best version of your story possible, and I want to discuss more advanced concepts for that.

Therefore, participants are expected to have a basic understanding on storytelling foundations,

including terminology, structure, character, plot, filmmaking, composition, design,

as well as a reasonable proficiency in drawing.

And because of this, this workshop is ecommended for those who have some degree of visual storytelling experience;

from anyone who is freshly graduated from an Arts Program, to those who have many years of

professional experience in the industry would be perfect for this course.

Also, I know I said "reasonable proficiency in drawing" up there,

but writers who may not count drawing as their strength, but want to write for an animated feature film

or graphic novel are also welcome!

Hi, I'm Minkyu, and I have spent the last 20+ years(and counting) in the film industry, creating

visual narratives within a wide range of environments and methods.

Through it all, Ive come to understand that there is nothing more important and urgent

than aligning with your most authentic creative path. The real, true, and correct journey

you are here on this earth to take as a creative and visual storyteller.

I am a future-oriented person.

Based on what I have come to know from the modalities I have studied and actively consult creatives in,

(such as Human Design and Astrology) much of what is being systemically

taught out there will be obsolete in a mere handful of years, if not already.

That is why I wanted to create this workshop, a workshop with eyes set on the future to come, instead

of the Disintegrating Now.

Craft is incredibly important to me, and a big part of this workshop will be my efforts in

trying to convey the best of discoveries by the masters of the past,

but my eyes are dead set on the world that is coming next,

and the incredibly mutative time that awaits us all.

"Mutative". That's an important word in Human Design (One of the many modalities I will be utilizing

in this workshop)

It's also the word that describes the type of projects I am most invested in helping to realize through this

experience.
I am interested in what is new, different, individual, and brave.

Projects that, while reaching for the highest level of

craft, also digs to the deepest part of the human soul.

If this sounds like what you'd like to do, I'd love to help.
